Introduction:
Coach Joe Ehrmann said masculine stereotypes are based on three fundamental lies that are pervasive in our society. He calls this false masculinity:
- Being a man has something to do with athletic ability.
- Being a man has something to do with sexual conquests.
- Being a man has something to do with economic success.
Coach says that true masculinity is measured by a man's capacity to love and to be loved. A man is defined by his life's relationships and his devotion to a cause.
The Bible shows Jesus Christ to be the complete man, the masculine man, in a life-long process of development. (Read Luke 2:52 aloud.)
- Jesus is shown to be a provider - feeding 5,000 men, plus women and children, from five loaves of bread and two fish. (Mark 6:35-44)
- Jesus is shown to be a protector - at his arrest he protects his disciples from harm. (John 18:4-9)
- Jesus is show to be a warrior - driving the money changers and vendors from the temple. (Mark 11:15-17)
Jesus strongly filled all these masculine roles. He loves and is loved.
My challenge to you is:
- Continue to develop as a man, throughout your lifetime.
- Fulfill these masculine roles - Provider, Protector, and Warrior.
Prayer.
